LCDGC Board of Director Election Nominees

Hello club members!

Club elections are coming up in October and we have eight nominees to consider for the board. Below you will find biographies of all the nominees. Please read through them in order to inform your decisions come election time. Thank you for your membership and participation in the election process.

Bill Geibel - Committee Chairman

I started playing Disc Golf in the early 1990’s and helped with the beginnings of Buchmiller in late ‘92. Eventually I started helping out with tournaments in ‘95 with Steve Maerz. Then, in late ‘95 I started selling discs due to a donation from Kent Johnson, president of massive graphics out in Norman Oklahoma. In 1996 I ran the first New Year's Day tournament. After that I really started getting into running bigger events. I started running local leagues in ‘97, primarily handicaps at Buchmiller with David Starry. In ‘98 I started the revamp of Akron with Mark Spang, which was also when I was part of the three man board in charge of Lancaster Area Frisbee Sports (LAFS) which included myself, Merrell Detweiler, and Lincoln Morgan. Around ‘97 I gained permission to go into the pond to start removing discs to get them to the rightful owners. Later in the year 2000, I started the expansion to 21 holes at Akron. For the next 10 to 12 years I was in charge of LAFS, which involved improving Akron’s course and overseeing local leagues at Buchmiller and Akron. 2013 brought a new responsibility when Shiprock Disc Golf course was built, as the creators of the course graduated high school at that point I was helping to oversee Shiprock maintenance, as well as Akron and Buchmiller. At this time I am now on the board for Lancaster County Disc Golf Club (formerly LAFS) as the Committee Chairman. I am seeking another term as the Committee Chairman to continue my involvement in the club as I run leagues and support course maintenance.

Ian Maffett - Member at Large

I've been playing disc golf since 2017; starting at Buchmiller like most players.  The variation of courses, the woods, and landscape is what sucked me in.   Disc golf became an outlet for me; whether it's playing quick lunchtime rounds, course maintenance, or fishing discs out of Shiprock creek.  We have a great community in Lancaster and I look forward to supporting the club through mostly behind the scenes efforts.

Jeff Geoghan - Member at Large
My name is Jeff Geoghan #193460 and I’m a resident of East Petersburg. I’ve been playing regularly for over a year and have been engaged with the club meetings, projects, and tournaments. If elected, I look forward to expanding my involvement in growing the sport in our area, and I believe I can be of assistance to the board in a variety of ways. I am the Marketing Manager for a large Pennsylvania real estate firm and have a background in marketing and social media, which I think can be of service to the club with websites, public relations, and member communications. I was the Mayor of East Petersburg for eight years and as such worked with government contacts, budgets, and planning, which will also help me serve the board. I have done several fundraising and volunteer organization projects over the years. Please consider voting for me for Board Member at Large for 2023-2024, thanks!

Ramie Millar - Member at Large

My name is Ramie Millar and I’m seeking a member at large bid for the LCDGC to further my reach into Disc Golf.  I’ve played competitively since 2017, gaining points to play in Amateur Worlds.  After Amateur World’s I found myself asking, what’s next other than competitive play.  I began assisting Travis at the Ship Rock league where he took me under his wing to show me how to run a league and give back to the community. At first, it was showing the community how much we appreciate them with write ups about the rounds and shoutouts to all divisions.  As disc golf began to explode through the pandemic, we saw an influx of new players entering the game.  I truly enjoyed sharing my knowledge of the game to newcomers.  As I continue to contribute on the course, I am interested in how I can contribute off the course.

Aaron Howard - Communications Director

My name is Aaron Howard and I am a Biology Teaching Professor at Franklin and Marshall College.  I moved to Lancaster in 2015 and discovered disc golf a few years later.  I love to play as often as I can.  I also write analytics based articles and run power rankings for the pro scene at Ultiworld Disc Golf.  I am running for my second term as LCDGC Communications Director.  In my first term, I worked with Travis Dombach and Ian Maffett to make significant improvements to our website and diligently posted important club information to our social media outlets.  In the future, I hope to continue increasing our social media presence (anyone want to volunteer to post on our Instagram?) and incrementally improve the club website.  I am also happy to field ideas from you, the club members, regarding how we can do a better job communicating with you.

Wes Moyer - Secretary

I have been living in Akron for 8 years after moving from Oley in berks county. I got involved with Lancaster county leagues in 2014 starting out playing at Akron and Buch. In 2016 I started volunteering and helping the one and only Bill Giebel weed whack at Akron. At the end of 2017 season the then board members asked me to help and get more involved with club decisions. Since then I have been helping lead cleanup and small projects at Akron. Also making sure after storms any trees are cleaned up. In 2018 or 2019 I started helping Bill run leagues and manage the computer side of leagues while officially becoming secretary for the board. I am once again running to be the secretary and help get the minutes out to club members so they know of what is going on in our area.

Shawn Conroy - Member at Large

My name is Shawn Conroy. I started playing disc golf casually in 2014 and jumped into playing tournaments the next year. Being only a low level Intermediate player on my best days, I saw that I could contribute more to the game in other ways. I ran 4 years of the Lancaster Winter Putting League, and have TD'd around 40 tournaments locally. In 2018, I was asked to join the LAFS Council. Once on the Council, I helped to revive the notion that some other members had previously had regarding seeking nonprofit status. I became one of the primary architects of the Club's ByLaws and helped guide us through the process of gaining our 501c3 status. I served as the Club's inaugural Vice President and then as a Member at Large for this past year. If given the opportunity, I'd like to continue in that vein.

Alex Swavely - Member at Large

I've been playing disc golf regularly for about 10 years now, and have been active in LCDGC for the better half of that time. I've been helping to maintain muddy run and shiprock through volunteer work for the past several years. I love being a part of the disc golf community and try to spread positivity, honesty, and a strong work ethic wherever I go.
